  • Question

  • Hello Everyone!

I'm little bit stuck about colloboration team site . We have it already , and it works fine but when it was created we used path-named site collections for example: http://sharepoint/department/it . I need to know if exists any site template which supports next type (http://sharepoint/ as the main page) and a link for every other department subsite on it ,like this (finance, support,it ...)  or we must use host-named site collactions ?

  • Hi,

According to your description,my understanding is you created a path based site collection  http://sharepoint/department/it (here department is path) and you have other site collections under department like http://sharepoint/department/finance,http://sharepoint/department/support....etc.

Now you want to create a root site collection like 'http://sharepoint' as main site and then  you want to link the above created department site collections and make them as subsite.

1)You can create root site collection http://sharepoint and can put the navigation links in the home page to the above department site collections but you cannot say them as sub site. Those links will act as just redirection whoever visits the home page and click on the corresponding link then it can redirect to corresponding department site collection.

    2) If you want to make the departments IT,finance...as subsite of 'http://sharepoint' then you can create the root site collection named http://sharepoint and susbsite named(department) http://sharepoint/department and under the department subsite you can create other subsites as IT,finance...etc.

    3) If you want to  to assign a unique DNS name to each site collection then Host named site collection  is the best option .
