Icon view - file/folder name truncated RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Windows XP and Vista, long file and folder name are truncated/abbreviated with "..." in the icon view. Here's an example.

    Original name: thisisonlyatesttoshowyouwhatimean
    Truncated like this: thisisonlyat...

When you click on that file or folder, you can view the full name. In Windows 7, it seems that the maximum number of viewable characters is higher, but in the desktop it works like Windows XP and Vista. I really don't like that, because all I see on my screen is a big wall of text. Is it possible to reduce the maximum number of viewable character in the icon view mode with a small tweak with regedit or it is integrated with Windows 7? I can't see an option to change that. So far, this is the only annoyance in Windows 7 for me, but a big one.
