Cannot open SharePoint Document through Windows Explorer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Pop-Up Error: Cannot open the document x.xxx. You may not have permission or the document may be open already.

Users have a mapped network drive using DavWWWRoot to access this SharePoint document library.  Workaround solution has been to open SharePoint in IE, check file out and then in, then file can be opened.  This workaround is not sufficient and kind of defeats purpose of using network drive if IE has to be opened each time.

    Help please! Thanks!

  • Hi Rashu,Rahul,

Thanks for your workaround.  Realisitcally, we're looking for a different solution to this problem - something long term.  We believe that since its possibole to setup mapped network drives to SharePoint directories, you should then be able to open files without any issues - however we are experiencing the above issue.  If there is a solution that doesn't offer a workaround but a simple long term solution to the problem, it would greatly be appreciated.

  • Hi Zoeb S,

The same user account is being used when logged into the the PC, accessing the network drive, and loggin into the SharePoint website.  Unfortunately, we have not tested this issue with another user or another computer. Please advise, thank you!

  • Not sure what will resolve this but you can try few things here

    1. Check if those documents are residing at "C:\Documents and Settings\Useraccount\My Documents\SharePoint Drafts"

If yes, remove it from there . The above location shows all the files which are checked out to Local draft, before removing make sure you          have saved everything on the sharepoint site.

    2. Try Re-mapping the network drive.

    Let us know the results.

  • Hi Zoeb S,

We'll try re-mapping the network drive.  The directory you mentioned in #1 doesn't exist at that location (or at all) for this user account. Thanks for your help!
