Hi,
First of all which version of sharepoint you are using?
Have you uploaded a document at multiple places in the application?
If yes then they will not be depending on each other and will act as different documents.

It sounds like you would be better off having one single document library and multiple views in different locations, possibly filtered by different metadata attached to the document.

No, I haven't uploaded any documents to multiple places yet. I wanted to find out if my query was a possiblility first. It sounds like it is not.
