Sharepoint Farm and Project Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • How is project Server licensed  relating to a Sharepoint Server Farm

A customer has tried installing project Server on one server  but  gets a error message back saying they need to install  the project Server software on all sharepoint servers in the farm

This would cause a massive  increase in licensing costs for the project server in this situation  ?

can anyone out there adivse anyway around this or a solution please

  • Hi David,

Project Server is based on SharePoint Server. To install Project server you need Enterprise license of SharePoint Server. Also if you have multiple server in the farm, you need to install SharePoint and Project Server on each server except database server. Refer following link for Hardware and software requirements (Project Server 2010). There is workaround.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee683978(v=office.14).aspx

If you don't have to install Project server in the existing farm , you could create spate farm only for project server, still you need SharePoint Server on that one server.
