password reset times

    Question

  • does anyone know whether a password reset policy takes effect from the point at which a user resets or whether it is rolling from the day the policy was started?

for example, we set a 90 day reset policy up so that all users have to reset their passwords after 90 days. does this mean that if an individual resets his/her password on say the 1st of the month, but the 90 days ends on the 5th of the month, will the next password rest date be the 1st or the 5th, and so on?

    Thanks in advance

  • When you assign the setting that passwords expire after 90 days, then passwords only expire when the password was last set 90 days in the past. If at the time you made the setting, a user last changed their password 100 days ago, then their password would now be expired. But if they changed their password 10 days ago, they would have 80 more days.

Yes.  The expiration is depending on the users pwdLastSet attribute.
