How to provide public access to WSS3.0 site. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have wss 3.0 server with internal database installed in Windows Server 2008 r2, running IIS 7.0. I have windows authentication enabled in my internal network. How do i make changes so that i can give access to users from outside with familiar hostname i.e https://wss.msdn.com with windows authentication enabled.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank You

You can extend your site to a new zone using Alternate Access Mappings, additional information in this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261814(office.12).aspx Plan alternate access mappings (Office SharePoint Server)

  • Hi,

Please note that it is the web application that you need to extend preferably with new IIS website and SSL enabled.

  • Hi,

Yes you need a different host header and port.

If you are extending on https then you need to have a different binding IP and a certificate.

I hope this will help you out.
