DP does not populate RRS feed

  • Question

  • We upgraded to CM2012 1602 and are at the latest version.   I needed to create a new distribution point on a Windows 2012 server.   I setup the follow roles/features.  IIS (including ASP), WDS (yet I don't see any RemoteInstall folder).  The server only has a C: drive.  No D: or any other drive.  Does that matter?     .net framework 3.5 and 4.5.     BITS,  remote server admin,  WPA.

I have the correct boundary group and I add a DP to this server yet nothing every happens.   I go to the properties of the DP Role and all I see is this:  (yes, I did have to manually install the config man client on this server).

How come this does not show as a DP and it does not get any content?

Why do you expect it to have more packages?

DPs will only have packages that you've assigned to them.

  • Hi,

Are there any errors on your console->Monitoring->Distribution Status->Distribution Point Configuration Status?

    Best regards,

  • ok, Jimmy, Yes, I looked where you said and I see errors. They all read the same.   Distribution Manager failed to install DP.

Jason, I read the .log and it shows this:

  • I did see this in my error log.    CWmi::Connect() failed to connect to \\sccm22-2BA.acme.org\root\CIMv2. Error = 0x800706BA    which others have said may mean I have a firewall issue.  On the TARGET DP system all firewall settings are Disabled.

  • OK, some odd things are now happening.   I removed the DP role.   I then configured the Windows Deployment role on my target server.   I waited 20 min and then re-added the DP role.   I now see the following folders on my target DP.

    SCCMContentLib - 0k in size:  SMS - 47.7 MB in size: SMSDP$ - 40.7 MB in size:  SMSPKGC$ - 0k in size:  SMSSIG$ - 0k in size

But....here is the real kicker.   On my Primary site I went to Administrator \ Site Configuration \ Servers and Site System Roles and I looked at the DP properties for my new DP.  I clicked on the CONTENT tab and it listed over 50 applications, packages, Driver packages etc....

Then, the next time I check they were all gone.  The only ones that remained are the ConfigMgr package.

The DistMgr.log on the PRIMARY site looks like it is doing stuff.  but I still see failure to connect.

What would cause this type of strange behavior?  Namely content is there and then its not there anymore?

  • OK, I was missing the WMI compatibility mode (http://being-sccmadmin.blogspot.com/2013/03/package-copy-failure-distribution.html)  so I added this.  the Distmgr.log kicked off and looked good......but I still don't see any CONTENT on this DP.     The bottom of my log file looks like this now.

  • Distribution Manager looks good above. Next is checking pkgxfermgr.log.

And, when you say "but I still don't see any CONTENT on this DP", what does that mean? What are you checking to make this statement?

  • the tail end of pkgfermgr.log file looks like this (see below).  To answer your other question I navigate to administration \ site configuration \ servers and site system roles \ 'my target DP' \ then in the bottom half of the window I click Distribution Point - Properties.  I then click on the CONTENT tab.  I only see 2 packages there.

I also looked in Monitoring \ distribution status \ content status \ DP Config Status.   I see my new target DP is GREEN but it only has 8 messages.  It says it processed 4 packages and that is it.
