Partial failure when restoring VMs backed up from Server 2016 hosts with DPM 2016 UR2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • When we attempt to restore a Server 2016/RCT Virtual Machine either to it's original location, or to another Hyper-V host, the restore fails right at the end with one of the following error messages:

    - An unexpected error occurred while the job was running. (ID 104 Details: Unknown error (0x80041024)
    - The protection agent on xxx was temporarily unable to respond because it was in an unexpected state. (ID 60 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909B0)

    It is a fresh installation.

    - Hyper-V on Windows Server 2016 Version 1607, build 14393.1715

    - DPM server on Windows Server 2016 Version 1607, build 14393.1715

    - DPM fresh installed and UR2 was installed

The event recorded on the Hyper-V target host:

    I saw the bug...

The original VM is located in D:\VM...

When I want to restore, the destination path given by SCDPM is c:\Program Files\... for the VM files and the good path for the virtual hard disk. See screenshot below.

So, the virtual disk is restored, but not the VM.

  • We installed the new Data Protection Manger V1801 and have still the same problem.

The path for the checkpoints and the smart paging file location is on D:\...  for our VM because we want a clean C:\ Drive.

Please fix this because otherwise it seems not realy to be a solid product if you can't restore a VM with one click. In addition the error is not helpfull as well.
