recommended design and configuration for exchange 2007 DR site. RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello all

we are planing to have DR site for our exchange servers, the current exchange configuration as the following:

2 nodes cluster for mailboxes servers (SCC).

2 servers with (HUB,CAS) roles with load balancer (F5).
2 SAN storage (NETAPP), one storage for the Head Office Data Center and the other one for DR site Data Center, and the data replication enabled on the storage.

all servers with windows 2003 SP2,

all exchange servers with 2007 SP1.

what is the recommended solution for this scenario in the DR site?

    thanks

  • 1. One way you can do this is by using SCR in the DR site and the SCC server can be the source.  Read the below for more info.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676502(EXCHG.80).aspx

    2. Not sure if your AD site is spanned acoross the 2 locations, if not then you need to consider HUB & CAS on your DR site and if you want HA at the DR site too then you would need to have multiple servers too.  If not then you can just have a single server at DR performing these roles.

  • Hi,

Agree with Sukh. As for site resilience, I think SCR will be the one to deploy.

And do you have any update?

    Thanks

  • Including with above guys, Go with data portability method in SCR target site which gives you flexibility to restore DR site Databse wise.

Don't forget to read below article::

  • thanks all for you help, regarding deploy SCR, the problem with SCR not support storage group that contains more than one database, and we do have storage groups with more than one database . otherwise i have to rebuild the mailbox database structure.

    thanks.

  • 1. Then one option is to do just that, create more storage groups, not sure what version of exh your using, ent or std, but you can have up to to 50 on ent.  Maximise these.  Could be a good this too, as all databases in in storage group wont be effected should one fail, backups/restore would be quickers per storage group etc, unless you have more than 50 databases.

    2. Cosinder a GEO cluster strecthed across a single ADs site then replication using NetAPP, if NetApp allows this.

option 1 would probably be easier to do.
