Powerpoint 2013 problem

Question
-
PowerPoint 2013 cannot display an embedded Visio 2013 drawing. When I copy a Visio drawing into PowerPoint 2013, it does not show the picture but an empty white box. When I open the same ppt in PowerPoint 2010, the picture is displayed normally.Thursday, November 8, 2012 6:09 PM

I found the problem! On both PC's I run FastPictureViewerCodecPack 3.3.0.71. After uninstall of this software the problem is gone. Thanks for your support, something to do with video/codec any way.

Hi,
Based on my test, I can copy and paste the Visio 2013 drawings, and PowerPoint 2013 will show it.
First, I want to confirm with you how you copy it? Just copy the drawings in Visio 2013 then paste (see 1 in the following picture)? Or save the Visio file then copy the file into PowerPoint 2013 (see 2 in the following picture)? In my example, both can display in PowerPoint.
So, check to see, only visio drawings cannot display in PowerPoint 2013? What about other images or pictures?
Check to see whether Screenshot in Insert tab Images group can show the drawing. (see 3 in the following picture)
If Screenshot also cannot display, then try create a new file to check this issue.
Or start PowerPoint 2013 in safe mode to check the issue.

I tried to use the three methods you describe:
- Copy/Paste (as embedded Visio Object): the picture cannot be displayed
- Insert File: the picture cannot be displayed
- Screen shot: the picture shows
I tried to paste special. When I paste using enhanced metafile the picture does not show, but when I use a windows metafile then the picture appears.
The same problem appears copying from excel 2013.
When I copy the Visio into word 2013, the picture appears. When I copy the Visio into Excel the picture does not appear.
Starting PowerPoint in Save mode does not help.

Hi,
I found that maybe this issue caused by OfficeArt engine. When a program that uses OfficeArt cannot display a graphic for any reason, it replaces that picture with a red X.And for the workaround, please refer to the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291874
This link applies to Office 2010, but we can according to the workaround to try.

Thanks, but this did not help. The article refers to problems with the video card.
I also installed MS Office 2013 on my desktop PC at home and (this is hopefull) I encountered the same problem on that PC.
Both times I use the Dutch version of the software.
Greetings, Warry.

Hi,
Then how about other versions such as English? Because I tested in English version and didn’t reproduce the issue.
Just test it with other language version, if the issue occurs, and then it maybe caused by the computer. If the issue doesn't occur, then it maybe caused by the version.

Have you tried RE-installing the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack to see if the issue reappears? Since all the components of the Codec Pack are optional, have you tried opting them out one by one to see which one, if any, causes the issue? What OS version are you running? If it's Windows 8, did you perform a fresh install or have you upgraded a Windows 7 installation with the Codec Pack already installed? Since the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack only deals with raster image formats it is quite unlikely that it could have any effect on Windows Metafiles or embedded Visio objects.Tuesday, November 13, 2012 12:05 AM

I performed an upgrade op Windows 7 to Windows 8 with the codec pack installed on both PC's. With Office 2010 I did not have the problem. It only occured after I upgraded to RTM 2013. As you asked I re-installed the coded pack and the issue reappears. I need some time to find out which option causes the issue.

We found and corrected a small issue that may have been the cause of the image display problems you were experiencing in some Microsoft Office 2013 applications. The workaround is part of FastPictureViewer Codec Pack 3.5.0.79

Hi Alex:
Thanks very much for replying to this discussion, and advising all of us that you found the snag and will be correcting it in the .79 release. That is good news, I really like using your Codec Pack, and I can't avoid using many dozens of PowerPoint presentations that I have created as far back as 15 years ago.
