Userenv Error 1096 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello to everyone,

We have 3 workstations that we have at a backup center, these workstations are not connected to a domain and instead use local group policy on the workstation.  Recently one of the workstations was replaced due to age and since it has been replaced we are seeing multiple errors in the Windows Event Log, below is the message...

    Event Type:    Error
    Event Source:    Userenv
    Event Category:    None
    Event ID:    1096
    Date:        03/01/2013
    Time:        1:22:44 PM
    User:        NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer:    Backup1
    Description:
Windows cannot access the registry policy file, C:\WINDOWS\System32\GroupPolicy\User\registry.pol. (Access is denied. ).

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The policy is setup so that the admin user group has a deny on it, and the regular users would be allowed to have the policy applied to them.  The policy on this machine is configured in the exact same manner as on the other 2 workstations and they are not reporting any of these errors.

I have 'Googled' this message and have not turned up anything that may help correct this problem.

Your help is appreciated and thanks in advance,

    CU
