OData feed throws error: OData: The given URL neither points to an OData service or a feed RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to test an custom OData feed from out AspNetCore OData Api.

The Api Url works in Postman and traffice activity is captured in Fiddler but when the same Url is used as datafeed in PowerBI Desktop it returns error

    Unable to Connect

We encountered an error while trying to connect

Details:  "OData: The given URL neither points to an OData service or a feed: <url>"

and there is no traffic in Fiddler.

Is there a desktop setting that needs to be enabled?

    Thanks in advance

  • That error message means what your URL returned doesn't look like something an OData feed would return. Try checking your results in Postman and maybe a browser to make sure the results actually look right. Sometimes this can happen if Auth in the service isn't configured correctly; we look for HTTP status codes that indicate a lack of Auth, and certain auth headers in the case of OAuth. If the service just sent you directly to a login screen without an error, that would definitely confuse the connector in Power BI.
