A reboot is necessary before package KB4540726 can be changed to the Installed state RRS feed

  • Hello,

    I am getting below two information events in setup logs when I have tried to install KB4540726 but even after I have rebooted 3 times there is no luck for me. I am trying to install the KB on Windows server 2012 Standard. 

    "Initiating changes for package KB4540726. Current state is Staged. Target state is Installed. Client id: DISM Package Manager Provider."

    "A reboot is necessary before package KB4540726 can be changed to the Installed state."

  • Hi Dilan,

    I meet with similar case before, check it and try:

    Reset Windows update components and

    Launch Trusted Installer Service.

  • Resetting Windows update components has worked for me. Thank you very much.

    Please note, Since I don't have permissions to restart, I have done below two steps. after that around 20-30 min, update has been installed successfully.

    #Set Windows Modules Installer service to automatic

    sc.exe config TrustedInstaller start= auto

    #Start Windows Modules Installer service 

    net start TrustedInstaller
