  • Question

  • Several questions relating to OneDrive;

    1) What Microsoft Web page describes the current OneDrive limitations for OneDrive in Windows 10 ?

    For example, total folder/file name length, file size, number of files in a folder, number of sub folders in a folder, total number files, allowed and non-allowed characters etc.

    2) What Microsoft Web page describes the current OneDrive for Business limitations for OneDrive in Windows 10 ?

    For example, total folder/file name length, file size, number of files in a folder, number of sub folders in a folder, total number files, allowed and non allowed characters etc.

    3) What methods or utilities does Microsoft provide to help uses when migrating files and folders into OneDrive ? And where can we find these utilities ?  Are the built into Windows 10 ?

    4) Is there a Microsoft web page that lists and clearly explains the current features of OneDrive ?  That is a web page that documents the current features of OneDrive in Windows 10's latest build. OneDrive has and is evolving over time, when I search for information about OneDrive, I often find conflicting statements.

    When you have thousands of files and folders (many created by saving web pages) the files and folders can have large total length of the full path and name, and the folder/file names can contain odd characters, for example saved from web pages.  It is very time consuming and not practical to move through each folder and file, manually checking for consistency, I expect that there must some utility that will walk through the files and folders, prompting the user to modify the file name when necessary, and maybe even doing simple auto corrections.  I have used a few 3rd Party utilities with varying success in the past, and these utilities can be expensive, and have limited functionality.

    As Windows 10 evolves, and OneDrive is improved, I expect that OneDrive's limitations will change so if there is the need for a web site that is kept up to date, describing OneDrives current features and limitations.

    I found the following sites, but they appeared to be out of date;

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2933738 - OneDrive for Business - 20,000 items total, 5,000 in a SharePoint library, 250 characters in a folder name, 128 characters in a filename, total file and folder name length of 250 characters; these limitations seem quite limiting, has not OneDrive for Business improved since this page was written?

    In addition to file names being changed by this Easy fix tool, several other rules are run to check for any additional limitations that you may encounter when it's syncing. A report that documents the issues that were found is generated and put on your desktop for you to review. A new log file will be generated every time that you run the Easy fix tool.

    The Easy fix tool won't change file and folder names that have unsupported characters or generate warnings in the log file for the following items: ...

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn831884.aspx

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3034685

    I went to the site https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/support/ but it does not even mention "Windows 10" ?
