How to recover a deleted workspace? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Let's say a project is deleted along with workspace.  I know that the project is recoverable from the archive database.  Is the workspace recoverable as well?

I noticed that concerning a deleted project (and workspace), the workspace is still listed when you go to "Sites" under the quick launch bar.   Does this work like a "trash can" where you can recover for a certain period of time?

    Thanks,

  • SP1 stores sites in the recycle bin I hear, but I don't think that is in
the current release.  Do you have a database backup?  Note that Central Admin
offers more functionality in terms of granular restore....

  • We're on Project Server 2007 right now.  So, why am I seeing the deleted workspace when clicking on "Sites" in the quick launch from PWA?

  • The QL is notoriously tough to update.  My first guess would be to delete the temporary files from IE, close IE, and then open and refresh the page.  If it's still there, then it could be a glitch - or maybe it was manually entered in the QL menu.

  • Just to jump in and answer your first question, no the workspaces are not stored in the archive db. You need to restore from a DB backup. If your on 2007, this is quite an undertaking.

Moving forward, there is a codeplex solution for a site level recycle bin that might be worth looking at (http://governance.codeplex.com/)
