Search only document sets in Fast search RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a sharepoint 2010 Fast server. We are planning to use document sets to store documents with common metadata.(Previously were using zips in moss 2007).

Now, the requirement is we need to return only  document sets even if the search results contain multiple documents within that document set. ie, if we searched for a keyword that was specific to a document within the document set, the search results should return the document set and not the individual documents.

    Please help!!!

    Thanks in advance

  • HI kavi22,

It's a FAST Search issue. You can get more suppoort in the Fast Search forum.

  • Document Set is a type of content type in sharepoint. create a scope and restrict the search results by contenttype. Let me know if you need more help on this.

  • If you want to search within only one document set in particular, read Corey Roth's post on the subject.

Basically you limit what you search on with "site:"http://site/Document library/Document Set Name/"

For limiting on document sets in general filter by content type as suggested by Sriram.

  • Hi Kavita,

Can you please confirm how you were able to achive your search requirement with FAST. Currently we are never getting the parent Document Set in search results as we are only getting individual child documents inside the Document Set as the results for text search.

Is there any setting to enable  parent Docuemnt set to be returned for child document text search. Is there any custom configuration or coding required?

Can Document Set ever be returned for Text search of child documents.

Appreciate any response for my query.

    Regards

  • Hi,

If you do the filtering as suggested and adds IsDocument=0, then you should only get the folder. But this will only return the folder, and you won't get hits on the content in the documents.

You could try to do some document collapsing, assigning the same id/number to the set folder and the items, and then collapsing to one hit. Are you using the search center or keywordquery class in custom code?

    Thanks,
    Mikael Svenson

  • Hi Mikael,

We are not using any custom code, we are just using custom scope restricted to the specific document library and using search core results webpart with a custom xslt for to display the custom document set metadata properties in a customized manner.

As you said we are only getting child documents as results for text search and filtering out result for only document sets with IsDocuemnts=0 yields no results.

Could you please elaborate on your below line and explain how to do this. Is this possible through search core results webpart?

"You could try to do some document collapsing, assigning the same id/number to the set folder and the items, and then collapsing to one hit."

I am curious to know how kavita was able to implement the above requirement. I dont see much details in her respose so it looks like it is a straight forward solution.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

You cannot configure the oob web part to collapse on a filter of your choice, but would have to do some custom coding to change the property. You would also need a custom extensibility module to calculate that number.

The easiest approach is probably to merge all the hits of a document set in xslt instead. Involves less coding at least.
