  • Thanks for the reply Herb.

An update: We have 4 updates now that  kill Office 2010 in XP:  KB4461614 , KB4461522 , KB4462157 , KB4462174 – the last one has regularly come down on a few people in the last month or so..

    ( I make  my own notes on the Updates which I find break things. I post them here, in case anyone else might find them useful ..  h t t p : / / w w w .excelfox.com/forum/showthread.php/2242-Excel-2003-ActiveX-controls-embedded-in-worksheet-not-working-then-can%E2%80%99t-even-insert-them-*SOLVED*?p=10923&viewfull=1#post10923

And here is a direct link to  the post which I keep updated towards the bottom, with the Updates that kill Office 2010 in XP

  • Hi ,

I checked up the update situation on a few of my XP machines a few days back, just to update myself…

I downloaded  some of the   updates which were waiting, ( I have chosen now to be informed of updates so that I can selectively download them)

Initially  did not download these two , which were waiting: KB3054873, KB4462174. The first I know to kill a lot of things in Excel 2003, ( in all operating systems),  and the second is our latest friend that kills Office 2010 in XP

    Later , I also rechecked all  the 4 updates which  I know kills off Office 2010 in XP. KB4461614 , KB4461522 , KB4462157 ,  KB4462174 :-

I tried reinstalling them on a few machines just to see what happens..

    KB4461522 is no longer available

KB4461614 still kills off Office 2010 in XP for me, removing it solves the problem

KB4462174 still kills off Office 2010 in XP for me, removing it solves the problem

KB4462157  still kills off Office 2010 in XP for me, removing it solves the problem

I also tried this combination: KB4461614 and KB4462157 . I tried this extra experiment because Microsoft say that one reason for KB4462157 is to fix the problem that Access 2010 and Excel 2010 stop working after installing KB4461614. I found  that the double combination actually  also kills off Office 2010 in XP for me, and removing them  solves the problem

P.s. …. ( In another Microsoft Forum post someone is having an issue and I expect it might be the update KB4462174

  • Update April 2019:

Here is a new recent “killer” update : KB4462223

Here a summary of the situation as far as I know…

    Office 2010 in XP” killers”

KB4461614 (  available , but not been offered for some time  )

KB4462157 ( available , but not been offered for some time. ( Originally this was introduced to solve the problem. It never did. Quite the opposite, it causes the problem if you install it, just as all the other “killers do !!.    ) )

KB4462174 (  available,  and until recently, was still offered )

KB4462223 : The latest, available, and being currently offered

  • Add KB4464566 to list of Office 2010 updates on Win XP that cause procedure entry point error (EnumCalendarInfoExEx).

  • Thanks.

Unfortunately, I  missed getting notification of your reply, and have just found out the hard way again.

I can confirm that KB4464566 is a new killer for me.

I also experienced something strange. Although I had the problem , the killer updates did not appear on my update list until I temporarily de installed some others. After de installing the killers  (KB4462223 and KB4464566) that then showed , I was then able to re install the ones temporarily de installed.
