Changing Project Server 2010 OLAP Service Account RRS feed

  • Hi Chris,

In PS2010, When you configure the Analysis services, Farm Administrators account will need to have administrative permissions in SQL Server Analysis Services & Farm Administrator account to the OLAP users local group.

    Please see below technet article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662108.aspx

If you are trying to update the SQL Server Analysis Services logon identity in services, would not impact the OLPA cube build unless you remove the Farm Administrator account to the OLAP users local group & administrative permissions in SQL Server Analysis Services.

Would suggest to check on Development server first.

     Hope that helps.

  • Hello Chris,

Are you trying to update the account user by the Project Server OLAP cube build job? In other words are you refering to the account displyaed as the owner of OLAP cube build job on Manage queue job page?

If yes, then log on to PWA using desired user account (account which you would like to set as service account for OLAP cube build job owner).

    1. Navigate to Server settings page and OLAP Database management.

    2. Click on the appropriate cube name and to open cube build settings page

    3. Uncheck the option "Update periodically" and save the changes

    4. Once again open the cube build settings page and this time select the check box for "Update periodically" and save the changes

  • The Farm Admin is not the service account for SQL or Analysis Services.  The account that was setup as the service account for Analysis Services is the account that Project Server is trying to build the cube with.  I would like to create an OLAP account for building the cube but need to know where to change the account that Project Server is using to build the cube.

  • Hi Chris,

Project Server will always use the account of the Microsoft Project Server Queue Service to initiate the OLAP database on SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), this account needs admin permissions in SSAS. You cannot create a separate account for that purpose, you can only change the Microsoft Project Server Queue Service account in SharePoint Central Administration (Security > Service Accounts).

SSAS will then create the OLAP cubes and fill them with the data from the PWA_Reporting database, therefore the SSAS service account (defined during SQL install installation or with SQL configuration manager) needs reading permission on the PWA_Reporting database.

So, you cannot change only the OLAP account, but this should tell you which permissions are required.

    Kind regards,
    Adrian
