Where can I get a fake/dummy/virtual only gamepad ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear forum readers and contributors,

I'm currently in need for a driver for a fake USB game controller (gamepad/joystick), i.e. a driver which would add a game controller to the device manager, but not connected to anything, never emitting any button press or axis event. Is there such a thing anywhere ?

More generally, there are cases when registering fake, dummy hardware can be useful to work around applications bugs or for compatibility purposes, by registering in software without having to plug true hardware which would not be needed in practice. Is there a repository of such software anywhere ?

If everything else fails, would it be easy to write one ?

    Thanks for your advices !

  • You might try performing an internet search using Bing or Google.

  • I might as well ask on the technet forums, and eventually I tried both...

The subject of my question may have looked too futile, hence I may ask it again later in a more general way. My very specific case of faking a gamepad has been solved already with vJoy, but this is a hammer on the fly : vJoy is more than a dummy driver just saying somehow "Gamepad here".

Imho, it could be useful that MS includes drivers faking every type of natively supported hardware in future Windows releases.
