Windows Modules Installer stop after following error: can not find file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had problems with blue screens for about 2weeks and about the same time I started to see the following error in my log file " Windows Modules Installer stop after following error: can not find file" (the error message is translated from swedish so it may be a bit off). The system logs this problem 1-3 times every minute. Do anyone have a solution?

  • Hi,

Let's first verify if the blue screen and the Windows Modules Installer are the same issue. For the blue screen issue, you can upload the dump file as below:

you can upload the dumpto thehttp://skydrive.live.com/ using your Live ID and I will check it:

    1. Click Start Button, type "%SystemRoot%\Minidump" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.

    2. Go to your Desktop, right-click on it and create a new folder named "Dump".

    3. Copy all the memory dump files (looks like Mini092003-01.dmp) in Minidump to this folder.

    4. Right-click on the Dump folder, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder".

    5. Please upload the ZIP file.

As for the Windows Modules Installer issue, run SFC as below:

Use the System File Checker (SFC)
    ===========================
    1. Click Start, type "cmd" (without the quote) in the Start Search bar, right-click cmd.exe and click run as administrator.
    2. Input the following command and press Enter.

    sfc /scannow

You can also contact Microsoft Customer service directly to analyze the dump file.

  • Hi,

Please let us know what files show the "don't have the permission to access the files" error.

In addition, does the blue screen occur again?
