DPM 2016 Crashes multiple times a day RRS feed

  • We have using Microsoft DPM 2016 on an Windows 2016 Standard Server. System Center 2016 DPM Administrator Console hangs with the follow error message:


     

    In the EventLog from the server we are seeing the follow error message:

    The description for Event ID 999 from source MSDPM cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

    If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

    The following information was included with the event:

    An unexpected error caused a failure for process 'msdpm'.  Restart the DPM process 'msdpm'.

  • We have had this on our 2nd DPM server backing up the pri DPM server. The reason it happend for us was a corrupt DPM database.

    DPmsync -Sync did not work at all. Had to reinstall the DPM and start from scratch.

    This is the fastest way to do it. Remeber to uninstall SQL 2016 first as DPM will not install on sql 2016 SP1 and uninstalling the SP1 does not help as the reportingserver will see that you have a diffrent version and that will screw with you :(
