Mac osx .local domains slow login/dns RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We've just intergrated some Mac with AD and we found that the login time is extremely high (from 20 sec - 1 min ). We did some research and found that if the domain uses variety of .local it's conflict with Apple's Bonjour service that cause high login or dns query time.

We don't want to change .local .

We've tried many workarounds with 0 luck. Examples:

    • https://www.centrify.com/downloads/public/centrify-directcontrol-for-mac-local-domain-workaround.pdf

( Side question, is there any workaround ? )

My main question is: if we have .local root forest can i create a different( forest ?) name example: .anotherdomain ?

Can somehow work that if i'm join all the Mac machines  to .anotherdomain and they reach .local servers ?

    Any idea is welcomed.

    Thanks,

    JK

A subdomain may be work,it is actually a AD question,I suggest you to post in AD forum for further assistance by experts:

You could check this KB for your reference:

You receive an "unexpected error occurred" error message when you try to access resources on a Windows-based network from your Macintosh computer

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/836413

And the link to apple.com in this KB seems be dead,I found this one:

Mac OS X v10.4, 10.5, 10.6: How to look up ".local" hostnames via both Bonjour and standard DNS

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201275

    Hope it helps.

So have you tried to add a static record in host file to bypass DNS query?
