People Search Working Partially RRS feed

  • Question

  • Scenario 1:

I enter a keyword "Ramanat" in the People search text box, and press enter to get results for "Ramanathan Ayyar". But I do not get "Ramanathan Ayyar" in the results, however few other names are coming in the results. But when I type "Ramanathan" instead of "Ramanat" then it shows results.

    Scenario 2:

When I login with some other user and considering the same scenario as above, it doesn't show any result, however when i type complete word like "Ramanathan" then it shows results.

However, in the People search webpart considering above scenarios, pop displays suggestions. But on people search result page it doesn't.

Please advise, if there is any solution

  • To achieve what you're after with the people search box, you'll need to add the asterisk (*) after the partially name, like Raman*, which would return Ramanat and Ramanathan.

Your other option is to extend the search box, which I've blogged about here, http://matthewyarlett.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/extending-sharepoint-search-box.html, which will append the asterisk to the search query.

  • Answer of your first question

If you are not getting the name of the proper person in people search that you are looking for

there can be 2 reasons for that

    1) the user is not present in SharePoint yet, I mean the profile has not been imported yet, You can confirm that by trying to add that user in any SharePoint site or searching in user profiles in UP service application.

    2) second reason could be the profile is not crawled, in order to solve that, full crawl the mysite application with http and sps3 protocol.

  • Thanks Matthew, I appreciate your help, I need one more clarification and then I'll make it as answer.

When I login with another user, it doesn't show those results which I am able to see when I login with my login account.

    What can be the reason?

  • Have you made any changes to the webpart properties (I.e. of the core results webpart), but haven't published the page yet?

That could be the reason you see different information when you are logged on verse when you logon with a different user (I.e. if you've changed scopes, or the changed the "query suggestions" field on the people search box).

  • No, We are testing all this on production site, no changes have been made to the webpart. There may be a different reason for that.

But, thank you so much for all your replies :)
