Windows 8 VPN RRS feed

  • Question

  •   We have 2012 AD drive maps that seem to work fine for Windows 7 and 8 (pro) when on campus.  But when Windows 8 clients go to use a VPN, all the mappings disappear and don't return.   Windows 7 works fine in that the drive mappings don't disappear. They simply get a red X until the VPN is established upon which they will then work.  But with Windows 8, they completely disappear so even once a VPN is established, there are no mappings to connect to.

If  necessary, one can use "net use" commands in batch scripts to establish the mapped connections again, but we would prefer not having our end clients have to do that.

Why does Windows 8 even lose the mappings in the first place even if it is not connected to a network?  Windows 7 doesn't lose the mappings when not connected to a network.  Any suggestions for a fix?
