Outlook 2010 - The item cannot be opened

    Our company recently migrated from POP to POP/IMAP. Outlook was fantastic when it was POP only. Now with POP/IMAP option - still the POP configuration works fine. In IMAP configuration a few of the mails (say 1 out 5 to 6) is not getting downloaded fully and consequently is not opening in outlook with the error "The item cannot be opened". For the same sender one mail does not open while other mails open. Mail with simple text message does not download / open; whereas the ones with bulk attachment download and open. We have tried changing the send and receive setting to custom based; have made all other accounts removed, all other POP PST files closed, made a new default PST for IMAP etc. Still nothing is solving this issue.

  • Hi Shankar,

    Do you have the latest update installed for your Outlook 2010?

    Does this issue happen to all users with IMAP configuration or just certain users?

    Have you tried creating a new mail profile and then re-configuring the email account in the new profile?

    In addition, we may also try to start Outlook in safe mode (outlook /safe) and then see whether this issue continues.
