Project Server 2010 to 2013 upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have the read the technet article for Project Server 2010 to 2013 upgrade. It is mentioned that we need to setup Project Server 2013 environment before starting the migration process.  It means, in the new server do we need to only install SharePoint and Project Server 2013. OR we need to create the SharePoint web application and create a new Project Server instance under the web application and start the migration process.

    Thanks in advance, Taj

  • Hello,

You will need a SharePoint 2013 farm with the Project Server service application configured and a web application. See the process here for upgrading:

For all details and process see this page to start: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg502590.aspx

  • Hello Paul,

Thanks for your reply. I have gone through same the link. It is mentioned 'Create the Project Server 2013 Farm'. To create the project server form below are the activities we will do.

    • Install SharePoint 2013
    • Install Project Server 2013
    • Run the configuration Wizard
    • Create Project Server Service Application
    • Create New Web Application and Site collection
    • Create New Project Server Instance

Do we need to do all the above activities? If we do so, at the end of the upgrade process, we need to remove the content database (WSS_Content) and project server instance database (PWAProjectWebApp) created during the above steps. Because this will be replaced with the migrated content and project server database. Please confirm.

    Thanks in advance, Taj

  • Thanks for the replay.

My doubt is, in 2013 environment after creating the web application, do we need to create project server instance or it will be automatically created during the migration process. I could not find this information in any of the posts.

    Thanks in advance, Taj
