DPM2012 Backup is Extremely Slow RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been using DPM since 2007.  I recently deployed a 2012 server.  I backed up several sources initially with not problem.  Recently backup times have slowed down incredibly on all protected servers.  Backup jobs that used to take 3min are now taking 24 hours.  This is happening to exchange backups, file backups and hyper-v backups.  It's happening to all backups.  This is a huge problem as currently our SLA's are not being met because backup jobs are taking so long that they are stretching into the next scheduled backup.

I've disabled Virus software and disabled TCP Chimney support.

    I need help.

  • Turned out to be that an updated nic driver was at fault.  This was on a DL370G6 and the problem occurred after updated the server with the most recent HP Service Pack, dated 2-19-13.

I installed the old NIC driver and all is well.

  • Hey Darren,

The Driver Version that I'm currently using is 4.6.17.502.  Are you having the same issue?

  • Thanks for the feedback, here's my issue:

I have a very slow DPM backup issue, with HP servers which used to work, but now when performing a consistency check is run at about 1mb per minute.

The HP NIC card in use is a NC364T, which has the 19/2/2013 download installed. driver file version 9.12.10.0 dated 30/10/12. I will try the previous version to see how if it resolves this issue and post back.

There isn't a lot of information relating to this type of fault on the web that I can see.

  • How long ago was it that you know it worked properly?  What changed since then?  You've probably asked these questions, but it can't hurt to think them over again.

  • The driver being used now is 9.15.17.0 dated 7/3/12.

Have the same issue, 1,141 GB in 6:49hrs.

Have asked the end user if anything was changed when the error occurred, but they can't recall as it was back around 17th June time. I know there have been changes, but no further information provided by them

  • Having similar issues with some files and mainly one Exchange server. I will try disabling TCO and will let you know. But it is funny that only one of them will show the issue.
