Outlook Exchange 2019 server: automatic tracking for email messages not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • A user has settings for tracking Mail: For all messages sent, request"Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server" checked. The user reported that the recipient was not asked to send the receipt back. The recipient was on the same Outlook server.

The user then reported that when sending an email, by selecting "Request a Delivery Receipt" under Options, the receipt does work as expected.

Our issue is that setting the option to always get a delivery receipt does not work.

    Any advice is appreciated.

  • Hi,

What's the version of your Outlook?(File > Offcie Account > About Outlook). Please make sure your Outlook has been upgraded to the latest version.

    >>The user then reported that when sending an email, by selecting "Request a Delivery Receipt" under Options, the receipt does work as expected.

What do you mean by "work as expected"? The recipient receive a prompt asked he to send a Delivery Receipt?

According to my test, when you set "Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server" checked or select "Request a Delivery Receipt" under Options, a delivery receipt will be received as below(Recipients will not be asked to send the receipt back, this is sent automatically as soon as the message has reached its intended destination ):

If you set "Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message" checked or select "Request a Read Receipt" under Options, the recipient will be asked to send a Read Receipt like below.

    Hope this can be helpful.

    Regards,

    Aidan Wang

  • Hi,

    I'm on version 1902.

"Work as expected" means the sender received the delivery note that the email was delivered.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

You can try clicking File > Office > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now to see if there is any update available.

    >> "Work as expected" means the sender received the delivery note that the email was delivered.

    >> For all messages sent, request"Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server" checked. The user reported that the recipient was not asked to send the receipt back.

So if you set "Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server" checked, the recipient will not be asked to send the receipt back and the sender can't received the delivery note that the email was delivered, right?

If you set "Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server" checked, you will see the "Request a Delivery Receipt"  is selected under Options when you are composing a message. These two options are equivalent.
