Sound device "not plugged in"? RRS feed

  • On my dual-boot system (HP Pavillion d4100y) the sound works fine in Windows XP, but in Windows 7, when I troubleshoot, I get error messages saying that my speakers or headphones are "not plugged in." Clearly that is NOT the problem. I suspect a driver/software issue. The problem is discussed in earlier forums, but I haven't seen a solution. Does anyone know the fix?
