how to make Outlook 2019 not show 'supposed to be hidden' folders?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We recently set up a new Citrix 7.x farm/site and Outlook 2019 for a few people shows way more folders than it should, e.g. AllContacts, AllItems, AllPersonMetadata, etc. etc.

    How do we make Outlook 2019 not show these folders??

  • Hi,

    What's the type of your account? POP, IMAP or Exchange?

    Are these folders created by you? If not, please try exiting Outlook desktop client and see if these folders would shown on the web mail.

    Besides, if these folders are not created by you and are not displayed on the web mail, you can just delete them.

    Then if these folders are created by you and you'd like to hide them rather than delete them, it is suggested to use MFCMAPI to hide theae folders in Outlook.

    Hope this can be helpful.

  • They are Exchange Server 2016 folders which Outlook does not normally expose to end users; of course they are not created by the end user.

    Removing them would be unwise because they are used internally by Outlook/Exchange.

    Hiding them is possible but beyond most non-technical users' abilities

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

    It is not difficult to hide these folders, just follow the steps in thie article. If you think the description in this article is complicated. Please follow the instruction step by step.

    1. Download MFCMAPI.
    2. Unzip the downloaded file and from the extracted folder double click on mfcmapi.exe.
    3. Dismiss the startup screen.
    4. Logon via; Session-> Logon…
    5. Select the mail profile which contains the folder you wish to alter.
      If you’ve never seen this dialog before, just click OK to load your default mail profile.
    6. Double click on the mailbox store containing the folder you wish to alter.
    7. Expand: Root Container
    8. Depending on your account configuration expand the following folder:
      1) IPM_SUBTREE
      2) Top of Outlook data file
      3) Top of Personal Folders
      4) Top of Information Store
    9. Select the folders that you wish to hide.
    10. Choose Property-> Advanced-> Edit given property…
    11. In the Property Tag field type: 0x10F4000B
      This will resolve to the Property Name: PR_ATTR_HIDDEN
    12. Click OK.
    13. A dialog will open; Enable the selection in front of Boolean to hide the folder.
    14. Close all the open MFCMAPI windows.

    The folders should now be hidden in Outlook.
