Audit "Document Preview" in search RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is it possible to audit who previews a document with the OWA Document Preview in the search results? For compliance reasons I need to be able to track who views documents. Since a user could parse the entire document without ever downloading it, I need to ensure that is recorded and tracked somewhere.

    Thanks,
    Joseph Irvine

  • Hi Joseph,

As I understand, you want to audit who previews a document with the OWA Document Preview in the search results in SharePoint 2013.

You could add JavaScript code in the search result page. You could edit the search result page in SharePoint designer.

When the mouse hover on one search result, it could check if the search result is document, if it is the   document, it could write the current user and relative search result into a list.

  • I hope, the above given suggestion should clarifies the concern you have asked about.

Moreover, if you wish to audit and get the results more accurately, you may also look into this automated solution(http://www.sharepointauditing.com/) that seems to be a good alternative approach for you.
