Load a specific theme Win7 Win10 1703 compatibliity

    Question

  • It seems as though the theme file format for Windows 10 1703 has changed from 1607.  1607 used to repsect a theme exported by Win7 but stopped in 1703 so I re-exported it.  Now the new theme works in Win10 1703 but is causing errors for Win7.

Because it has to be applied to a user, it is causing issues while we have both Win7 and Win10 machines in production.  I'd know how to fix it if this were a preference item with item level targeting, but it is not.  Anyone have a suggestion?

  • Hi Mike Plichta,

Would you please share us more details of the issue?

How did you configure the “load a specific theme” (via “Load a specific theme” gpo )? How did you export and import it (registry key)?

According to your description, we could configure different configurations for different system version. Put all the Windows 7 machines in an OU and put all Windows 10 machines in an OU then configure different settings for each OU.

    Best regards
