Windows Update Through Proxy

Question
-
This is nothing new. The built in windows update will not communicate through a proxy server. But with other OS's, you can navigate to the windows update site manually and get the updates. Now with Vista, if you go to the site, it kicks off the built in internal update.
So far I have not found any configurable proxy settings settings for the built in internal windows update in Vista RC1. Is there a fix or configurable setting?

If you already set proxy settings in IE, Windows Update will use it.
Good luck

What proxy server are you using? Usually its a configuration issue with the proxy server itself, or a proxy server set to "transparent"Wednesday, December 20, 2006 5:23 PM

I solved a problem with Windows Update error 0x8024402f by going to my Linksys BEFSX41 router and turning off the ActiveX filter.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem when the computer does not use proxies and is not running through a router?

In Vista, Windows Update does not use the proxy settings in IE.
It uses the WinHTTP proxy settings.
These are accessed via a cmd shell run as Administrator:
netsh winhttp set proxy <YOUR PROXY SERVER>:<PORT> "<EXCLUSION LIST>"
