Urgemt - Error opening FCS Management Console - Timeout expired. RRS feed

  • Hi there,

    I have a 4 server FCS deployment, which has been working very well for a number of weeks. However, over the last day or so I have started seeing errors upon trying to open the FCS Management Consol on the Management Server. Today, I cannot open it at all. I though it was a performance issue on the Collection Server, so we installed 4Gb more RAM, however I still can´t open it, even after restarting the Collection and Management Servers and re-running the Configuration Wizard.

    The error I see just now is:
    "An error occurred during view refreshing. Verify that you have successfully completed the Configuration wizard and have permission to access the Management server.

    Further details:
    Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
    Warning: The join order has been enforced because a local join hint is used."

    All servers are up and running and I am using the same credentials as always.


    Please help!!

  • Ok, after a heck of a lot of scratching around, I found this article:

    I applied it and restarted the MOM service on the Collection Server and the console opened, however the Policy Management tab no longer shows the previously created policies. However, we were able to create and deploy a new policy.

    The problems remain:
    Access to the console is inconsistent.
    Cannot view previosuly created GPO`s in the console.

    Anyone able to help?

  • http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949874 is also a good MOM hotfix to apply to your servers as well.  You could also try running the FCS BPA to make sure there's nothing that it detects that it doesn't like http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb877697.aspx

  • Thanks very much for your kind reply.

    On Friday we downloaded this hotfix:
     http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B949799&x=6&y=13

    which had in fact already been installed. This requiered us to uninstall the same hotfix and its prerequisite and reinstall them. Re-starting the server, we could again open the console without problems. Touching wood, all seems to be operational once again, although we had no way to recover our los GPO`s, so we will recreate them.
