  • Hi,

An attached VHD can only be a Basic Disk.

Additional considerations: - The path specifying the location for the VHD must be fully-qualified and cannot be in the \Windows directory. - The minimum size for a VHD is 3 megabytes (MB). - A VHD can only be a basic disk. - Because a VHD is initialized when it is created, creating a large fixed-size VHD might take some time.

  • Hi,

A VHD acts as a portable/removable media since you attach it.

On a virtual machine it acts as a primary partition and therefore you can convert it to either Basic or Dynamic.

    • "You can't use dynamic disks on portable computers."
    • "You can't use dynamic disks on portable computers or with removable media. You can only configure these drives as basic drives with primary partitions."

    Read carefully this article.

    Hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
    Leon
