Vista deployed across RAID 1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been driven to server versions of MS OS products in the past because W2k, XP etc have not supported a mirroring.

Does any Vista OS support deployment with RAID reducndancy? I want the ability to continue working when I lose a hard disk. I want to schedule a resynch of a new disk.

    Please advise.

  • I just confirmed via live chat with Dell that there are RAID compatability issues with Vista.  They offer only 2 systems (the XPS 910 and 410, I beleive) that have the RAID 0 option.  Only ONE (1) with RAID 1 (the XPS 910...thier most expensive system).

I'm going to delay my purchase of a new machine until a patch for this issue is released...unfortunate for BOTH Microsoft and Dell.  (but, they'll get my $$ eventually.

Of course, I could always opt for 2 identical drives and just use Ghost...but that's not what I want.  I want RAID 1!

  • Vista Business and Ultimate have the feature

But instead of using S/W RAID it is recommended to use H/W RAID, as is more reliable.

It all depend on your Data
