Remove old Exchange after being turned off for 4+ years RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hallo , I have Exchange 2010 from 4 years working flawlessly. When migrating from the old Exchange 2007 the old stuff didn't uninstalled it , just turned it off after ensured clients are looking to new and, boxes are migrated. The servers are with different addresses and names in the AD lets say it server1 and server2. The machine is still preserved and i decided to turn it on (with the idea to uninstall exchange properly from it because this one will never be used)  but cant enter with domain admin or other account except local admin , because i think its for the 4 years away from power and network and the computer account should to be reset in order to be able to log in.Can you give me advice is it safe to reset its account and then how properly delete databases + uninstall Exchange without messing my other working Exchange or what should i care during that procedure.

  • Why do people insist on turning off Exchange servers?  I've been preaching for years that you never do that because it doesn't prove anything and Exchange expects all servers in the organization to be up.

It sounds like all you should need to do is repair the computer account.  Once you get the computer back in the domain, you should be able to uninstall Exchange.  I recommend doing it from the command line.

  • Remove all public folder replicas from that server to the Exchange 2010 public folder server.  You can use the AddReplicaFromPFRecursive.ps1 script provided in the /Scripts folder where you used Exchange.  Run it twice, once for the \ (regular) tree, and once for the \NON_IPM_SUBTREE (system folder) tree.  Wait a short while for replication to happen, then use the RemoveReplicaFromPFRecursive.ps1 script to remove all the replicas from the Exchange 2007 server.  Wait a while, then run Get-PublicFolderStatistics again.

If some folders are stuck, post back for additional suggestions.

  • Open a command prompt as administrator and change your directory to the \Bin folder under where Exchange is installed.

    setup.com /mode:uninstall

    That's from memory--I haven't uninstalled Exchange 2007 for a while now.

  • Hallo. I successfully managed to enter into the exchange after rejoin it in the domain /reset accound doesnt do the job/ and removed the old databases. But cant remove the public folder DB because it tells me there is a replicas.

We dont use public folders and when i when open public folder management only system public folders are available.

I've tried to dismount the DB ,remove the file and mout and create empty DB , but still dont allow me with the same error. On the exchange 2010 which we are using appeared others owascratchpad, schema roots and store events.
