Client Installation Issues and Troubleshooting RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having trouble installing the client on some Windows 7 PC's.  Firewall exceptions for WMI and File and Print sharing are setup, I can browse the admin share of these PC's from the SCCM server. The admin share has a directory for ccmsetup. I've deleted their entries from DNS, rebooted each client and tried to deploy again after the DNS entry reappears, but still will not install.  I've been able to right click on a client in the past in Configuration Manager 2012 and install the client, but I'm not able to do this anymore. I'm not sure if it's a selected group of PC's or not.

  • Are you initiating a manual client push? If so: what does ccm.log tell? Double check the boundary / group configuration if you don't see any activities in ccm.log (as client push will only work for assigned resouces; alternative: provide the site that should initiate the push in the wizard)

  • Can you see that the ccmsetup service is running on the client? If so the ccmsetup.log could give you the answer.

    C:\Windows\ccmsetup\Logs\ccmsetup.log

  • Yes - manual client push. The error in ccm.log is Unable to connect to WMI (root\ccm) on remote machine "D630-22, error = 0x8004100e.

  • That single line is useless. That message is expected if there's no Configmgr client installed on the target computer. What do the next few lines tell?

  • You should run winmgmt /verifyrepository at the command prompt to verify WMI on the client. If it says inconsistent you could run the following:

    winmgmt /standalonehost
    winmgmt /resetrepository

    and then Reboot

  • You should run winmgmt /verifyrepository at the command prompt to verify WMI on the client. If it says inconsistent you could run the following:

    winmgmt /standalonehost
    winmgmt /resetrepository

    and then Reboot

No need to do this. Please see Torsten's response.

What does this do? When I run winmgmt /resetrepository I get

    C:\Windows\system32>winmgmt /standalonehost
    Service configuration changes succeeded.

Please stop and restart Winmgmt service for changes to take effect.

    C:\Windows\system32>winmgmt /resetrepository

  • In Configuration Manager the client still has a status of No for Client and nothing for Client Activity. Anything else I should try?
    Wednesday, October 16, 2013 4:28 PM
  • See if the client was installed successfully (ccmsetup.log) and if it can communicate with the MP (ClientLocation.log, LocationServices.log, ccmmessaging.log, ClientIDManagerStartup.log). No need to post the logs; upload them to Skydrive.

Once again, as Torsten recommended above, you need to examine ccmsetup.log on the client itself to determine if there was an issue with client installation.
