Windows 7 Service Pack 1 release candidate wave 0 for x64 based systems fails to install.

Question
-
I have installed the optional updates which were released today (there were 3 of them) as well as these 2 updates. (All previous WU and MU updates have been installed, except driver updates which I get from manufacturer site)
KB976902
WUSignUpTool_x64.exe
I have disabled all startup process not needed, installation reaches the point where it requires me to reboot the computer, after I reboot it attempts to configure the service pack and fails during the 3% complete mark and reverts changes. The error code I am presented with is 0x800f0826.
Please help as I am interested in experiencing what has changed.

Hi,
to see the cause of Windows 7 updates/SPs, we must look for error messages in the file CBS.log.
Please run the Windows Explorer and go to the folder "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\" and copy the file "CBS.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't upload it) and upload the complete CBS.log to your SkyDrive [1] and post a link here.

Question 4 Franpa_999, You Are Aware That The Official Service Pack One Downloads Are Hosted On Microsoft Tech Net (Except 4 Members Of The Private Beta, They Access it From Microsoft Connect instead), (As well as this Forum is hosted On Microsoft Tech Net as well). If You downloaded Service Pack One From Some Place Else Other Then Microsoft Connect, Microsoft Tech Net, Or Windows Update Then You Are In Violation Of MSFT's EULA, Just FYI.
Also, I Have Another Question 4 You, If You Are Not Accessing This Forum Through Microsoft Tech Net, Then How Are You Accessing This Forum?

the CBS is too small. upload all CBS files in the folder.

I click the link in the top right or a "reply" link to sign in, I don't have any payment subscription with a MS service. I am downloading from Windows Update which lists the Wave 0 installer of the public release candidate, the download is the minimum size as I have already installed all previous updates from Windows Update excluding driver updates which are instead acquired from the manufacturers site.
Andre.Ziegler, I have re-uploaded the file, it is 3 megabytes in size. I'm not sure why but copying sometimes yields a 18 kilobyte file instead of the entire file. Hope this helps.

edit: ffs, it keeps copying a random amount of the file rather then the whole file, I assume some process/service is periodically accessing the file and interrupting the copy process, anyways I am uploading the complete log now as I did finally manage to get it. I have opened the log and can can see that the end of the log file is complete this time.
So, download it now after this edit that you just read.
edit 2:
File size = (3,226,276 bytes)

sfc.exe /scannow from a admin prompt worked fine. What if the command findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcfail.txt does not generate a txt file, I ran it in the same Command Prompt session. I assume it stores it in the same place as cbs.log right but it doesn't appear to be getting generated.
Edit: don't worry, I replaced it with findstr /C:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >C:\sfcfail.txt and have the txt file.

Which folders do the files go into? Neither CSB or System Rediness Tool logs list the expected location of the files.
edit: Don't worry, I can extract the entire contents and do a file search and look at where they are normally stored.

Perhaps I should take the advice of the NPR exec who told Juan Williams to have his head examined, but I am currently downloading 7601.17105.100929-1730-3_Update_Sp_Wave1-RC1SP1.1_DVD.iso, the Wave1 version of SP1.
Is there a step by step of do's and don't's in the installation of SP1 for this iso? It is on the same page as other x64 versions of SP1.
Q1. Does the .iso have both x64 & x86 install capabilities; does it automatically determine if it is booting on an x64 or x86 system? Is it to be started from the Desktop or during the boot or re-start process?
From some of the Q&A going on re the SP1 beta or RC, or whatever it may be called at this point, I might just wait for MS update to do to me what it will; like yesterday, seeming to ignore my update settings to download but not install, went ahead and installed the currently infamous KB976902, which has no info at MS when clicking on the "what is this" link.
I did figure out that it, on its own, changed my login, my power options, Desktop and what else -?- I do not know. I did not find that out until I rebooted for another app install/uninstall, and came back to the system, which was totally blacked out in the midst of the reboot -- I had left for several hours. It was a little spooky to find my recently "custom re-installation" of Win 7 X64 Pro in a very "condition unknown."
These experiences, and especially MS not even to this time giving a "what to expect" from the KB976902 leads me to probably not try the "burn a disk & take a risk" pathway to SP1 installation.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Copier Guy

Andre.Ziegler, I have re-run the System Update Readiness Tool just to double check and it reported no problems. I then went and attempted to install Service Pack 1 and it installed correctly.
Thank you for spending your time, skills and knowledge in helping me resolve this issue. I believe the problem arose via DriverCleaner.NET which I will now avoid as Nvidia have recently introduced there own approach to a clean driver installation.

That file was pretty large so I renamed it and then tried service packing my computer again so I would have a fresh setupapidev.log file. Here it is:

As you will notice from the log file, there are several mentions of compositebus.inf. That is the driver that SP1 was hanging up on a couple days ago. I did a search for that file and found what appeared to be the SP1 version in C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_compositebus.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_177ed93b056892f1
I then went into Device Manager under System Devices\Composite Bus Enumerator and updated the driver using the one in the path mentioned above. After doing that, the SP install got a little further until it hung up trying to install a driver for UMBus Enumerator. I decided to try the same process as I had done with the Composite Bus and when I was updating the driver for UMBus I noticed that Windows complained that the driver wasn't signed. It made me remember that the Composite Bus driver I updated wasn't signed either so I thought that maybe all of my Service Pack issues had to do with it not being able to install drivers that weren't signed so I went into GPedit.msc and told it to ignore driver signing so it can install drivers even if they aren't signed. Doing that got me past the UMBus driver and got me to the where I am at now with it failing on the machine.inf.
I have also run the SP1 Upgrade Readiness Tool and it found no issues.
I just wanted to give you all of the background on things I have tried.
