Issue opening documents on SharePoint when access via UAG Trunk RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am runnig into an issue with a UAG deployment that I have not been able to resolve.

The UAG server is publishing SharePoint and OWA via a single trunk and is also configured for DirectAccess. DirectAccess works fine and all apps including SharePoint function as normal. However, when accessing the same SharePoint server via publishing on a trunk the Sharepoint app opens fine and users can browse anywhere on the Sharepoint site. The problem occures when opening Office Apps. When opening a Word document, Word launches, the document shows it is downloading then Word fails to display the document and just shows a grayed window. When launching Excel I get an error stating "Microsoft can not access the file http://myspserver.mydomain.com/Shared Documents/Filename.xlsx. However I can upload documents into SharePoint via the portal all day long. I have configured appropriate AAMs and everything else works perfectly except opening documents. Office suite is 2007 Enterprise and all patches are current.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

  • Well I resolved the issue but in a somewhat non-typical manner. I had a snapshot of the system prior to installing update 1.

I rolled back the system, reapplied the update then recreated the trunk and DirectAccess. Now everything works exactly as it should.
