IE 9 auto redirects to different url RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

    I m using IE 9 ...

My mail contain link for e.g. http:/demo/demo.test/#/Demo.Test.Silverlight.Client.MainNavigationPage?item_type=Task&item_field=Id&item_value=cea1105f1e744610a42f46e2c5de4888

But if i click on the link from mail then IE 9 shows url as   http:/demo/demo.test/?item_type=Task&item_field=Id&item_value=cea1105f1e744610a42f46e2c5de4888#/Demo.Test.Silverlight.Client.MainNavigationPage

Why it is appending #/Demo.Test.Silverlight.Client.MainNavigationPage at the last???

Is there any settings need to do in IE?

  • Unfortunately I m not allowed to use the tracing tool as its client environment

Too bad.  If that had proved inconclusive my next suggestion would have been to run ProcMon.   But most likely you won't be allowed to do that either.   Can you reproduce this symptom on your own hardware?  Then all these diagnostics would be your own choice.

You show another difference happening: that middle # in your path would have definitely been part of the initial request and appears not to be part of the redirected response, so the answer is that it is not IE which is doing that but the server.

Tip: use the Developer Tools, Network Capture tool to see this.  (F12, Ctrl-Backtab, F5).   Since you are interested in following a redirect there are some unfortunate default settings which you should change before trying to trace your symptom.   In Tools, Clear entries on navigate, make sure that there is nothing ticked there.

  • But if i copy http:/demo/demo.test/#/Demo.Test.Silverlight.Client.MainNavigationPage?item_type=Task&item_field=Id&item_value=cea1105f1e744610a42f46e2c5de4888 and paste to IE .. it works fine..

It is not working if I click on the link from my outlook mail, it is appending #/Demo.Test.Silverlight.Client.MainNavigationPage in the last in IE.

So this is something related to IE.

Even better.  Now you have two cases to trace and compare for their essential differences.   Unfortunately, you won't be able to use the Developer Tools Network Capture tool for this case.  Instead you could use a proxy tracer such as Fiddler2 or you could use a full TCP packet tracer such as NetMon or WireShark.

    Good luck
