What - if any - pitfalls are there in running Cognos visualizations 'through' SharePoint 2007? Are there significant benefits with Cognos 10.x?

For the issue, do you mean that you are worrying about the re may be some hidden dangers in applying the Cognos in SharePoint? The thing you may care about is adding authentication information in the data source. And you may refer this article for some detailed information:
