IE 11 crashes after the kb3021952 update. RRS feed

  • Question

  • IE browser crashes for some pages in my application. This is happening after installing latest IE update (kb3021952)

    Below message appears and IE closes when ever I go for this page.

         Internet Explorer has stopped working

         Windows is checking for a solution to the problem....

    I use JQuery scripts in this page.

    It is failing after execution of below code in JavaScript page. This is the last step after building the page data and rendering it on browser.

    ajaxCriteriaPost(
                    window.location.pathname.toString(),
                    JSON.stringify(criteria),
                    function (data) {
                        //change the html from content to the new html
                        $(".report_area").promise().done(function() {
                            $(".report_area").hide("fast", function () {
                                $(".report_area").html(data);
                                $(".report_area").show("fast");

                                // By this point, new criteria is loadedSave the current page state.
                                savePageState(data);

                                //do something to show parameter display
                                if (typeof window.contentReloaded == 'function') {
                                    contentReloaded();
                                }

                            });
                        });
                    }
                );

    I tried Microsoft Fixit, but no luck. I also tried changing the JQuery version from 4.40 to 4.6.0, but no use.

    This is a production issue. Please suggest me some methods/steps in fixing this issue.

  • Hi Guthula,

    "IE browser crashes for some pages in my application."
    Is the application developed by yourself?

    " This is happening after installing latest IE update (kb3021952)"
    Have you tried to uninstall this KB to have a check ?

    "I tried Microsoft Fixit, but no luck"
    There is a known issue about this KB .Do you mean you have tried the following link`s fix it tool ?If not ,try it.
    Secure Channel cumulative update changes TLS protocol renegotiation and fallback behavior
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3023607

    We can try to add these pages to compatibility view to have a check .
    Tools \Compatibility View settings

    We also can try the usual troubleshoot methods to have a check.
    1. Clear the temporarily files cache to have a check .
    Tools\Safety\Delete Browsing History
    2. To verify whether it is caused by add-ons ,we can open the Internet Explorer 11 without add-ons to have a check .
    To open the Internet Explorer 11 without add-ons :run “iexplore.exe -extoff”.
    If it is caused by the add-ons ,we can enable the add-ons one by one to navigate the culprit.
    3. If the issue persists ,reset the Internet Explorer 11 to have a check if it is possible.
    Considering this may be related to the script,it is also recommended to look for help from our IE developer forum .

  • Hi MeipoXu,

    Thanks for the reply.

    The application was developed by others, but I am responsible now.

    I tried uninstalling the kb3021952 update and tested, its working correctly, but users of my application cannot uninstall this update due to access issues. It is also working on other servers which does not have this update.

    I also tried Fixit as you mentioned, but it does not apply to my OS. Its prompting  message - "This Microsoft Fix it does not apply your operating system or application version".

    I also tried Compatibility view , cleaning cache and by running IE without Add-ons. Resetting the IE also did not resolve the issue.

    I believe some Ajax calls causing this problem.

    Please share me if you know any work around.

    Thanks

    You need to look at the Stack Back trace for the crashing thread in case there is any sign of interference in there.  The Loaded modules would also give a clue, even if a suspect module was not referenced in the Stack Back trace.  On a related tack you can try reproducing the symptom in a safe mode boot or otherwise significantly reduced environment where it may be less likely to occur.  Etc.
