Timesheet Issue in Project Server 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In Project Server 2007 if i submit a timesheet(i.e. entered actuals in timesheet for a specific day) Project Manager(Status Manager) doesn't receive the updates in ms project(i.e. he didn't get the message "You have received a task update" while opening the plan.

Note: In our environment user itself the timesheet manager and we have set autoapproval for timesheet.

Can anyone revert me what could be the cause of this issue and how to overcome this?

  • Hi Gokulraj--

If you are using the My tasks feature of project server to track the project proess & team member enters the hours & submits, It goes for the approval for Status manager of the task.
Using My timesheet, Timesheet updates can be approved by Timesheet manager since you said that users are the timesheet manager & when they update timesheet for approval , system updates with auto approval.

    Does that help?

  • Thanks for your reply.

Normally task updates will go to the status manager, am i correct?

Even the timesheet is set as autoapproval, the task updates will be received by the status manager, isn't it?

As per your reply, because of auto approval the PM didn't get the message, but the actuals should be updated automatically in the project right? that doesn't happen.

    Please help.

  • Hi Gokulraj--

Normally task updates will go to the status manager, am i correct? - YesEven the timesheet is set as autoapproval, the task updates will be received by the status manager, isn't it? No,
Timesheet updates & Task updates are two different feature of projectserver.
Project Server has feature of  tracking progress for the projects & tracking billable and nonbillable hours. Based on organization needs, We can have My task or My timesheet options enabled in system. Since you are using the PS 2007, They are not connected unless you use the Codeplex utility for Tidemode.

Status Manager is responsible to approve/reject task updates from Team members & Timesheet manager is for approving  the timesheets.  Please see below article which explains in details: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-server-help/overview-of-timesheets-and-task-status-HA010146635.aspx

Timesheet is the sanpshot of tasks taken while cretaing & doesn't update the actual hours in project plan unless you have SEM enabled for PS2010 or  Codeplex utility for Tidemode in PS2007 . My tasks updates are applied to project progress.

Since you are loooking at the PS2007, Please see Marc's blog:http://marcsoester.blogspot.in/2008/03/project-server-2007-timesheets-goods.html

Because of auto approval the PM didn't get the message, but the actuals should be updated automatically in the project right?
My tasks updates are applied to project progress. PM didn't get the message since team member used the my timesheet & since being the timesheet manager , it's auto approved.

    Hope that helps.
