What settings do I enable and which internet location do I tell Group Policy to use to get Windows Updates?

  • I need to use Group Policy to get and push out Windows Updates, what settings do I use and what Internet location do I need to direct group policy to get Windows Updates? As WSUS simply won't work, something I will look at after I get Group Policy is able to administer Windows Updates.

    Here are the current settings I enabled;

    Policy Setting Comment
    Configure automatic updating: 4 - Auto download and schedule the install
    The following settings are only required and applicable if 4 is
    Install during automatic maintenance Disabled
    Scheduled install day: 0 - Every day
    Scheduled install time: 03:00
    Policy Setting Comment
    Set the intranet update service for detecting updates:
    Set the intranet statistics server:
    (example: http://IntranetUpd01)

    Thanks in advance

  • Group Policy will set your clients to either uses Windows Update and deploy them at specific times or to look at a particular WSUS server. GPO and WSUS go hand in hand as WSUS is Microsofts tool for Windows Update Deployment.

    Why is WSUS not going to work? Maybe SCCM would be better? or some third party tools?(GFI, Shavlik, Etc,etc)
