Milestones Due This Month (Project 2013) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

How does the "Milestones Due This Month" filter work?

Generally, in custom filters, when I use a text between quotes and followed by a "?", there is a dialog box which opens. In this built-in filter, there is no dialog box after the "End of the month is:"? Obviously the filter found the date somewhere.

    Where and how?

    Thanks

Excellent question, my friend.  A new feature in Project 2013 is that the software uses the date in the Current Date field to calculate the dates of the first and last days of the current week, and to calculate the dates of the first and last days of the current month. The software specifically uses this information with the Milestones Due This Month, Tasks Due This Week, and Tasks Starting Soon filters. For example, for the Milestones Due This Month filter, the software captures the date in the Current Date field, calculates the date of the last day of the month, and then filters for any Milestone task with a Finish date that is earlier than the date of the last day of the month.

So, even though you see what appears to be an interactive filter in the Filter Definition dialog for the Milestones Due This Month filter, this filter is not truly an interactive filter, since it never displays the dialog we would expect from previous versions of the software.  Instead, the software is using the new functionality I describe in the preceding paragraph.  Hope this helps.
