Updating a field automatically with workflow RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everybody

We are working with Project Server 2013 on premisses. We are building a workflow, and I would like to understand the behavior of the SharePoint Designer when trying to set a field automatically. We wish that our workflow goes like this:

An user starts a project and fill out a PDP. As soon as he sends the project to the next stage, the workflow has to set a field automatically. This situation will happen a bunch of times, in all workflow stages. So it was build like:

    Stage A:

-wait to a project to be submitted

-then set the field 'Project Status' to 'Initiating'

    -then go to Stage B

    Stage B:

-wait to a project to be submitted

    -then go to Stage C

    ... and so on.

The point is that I have noticed that the field is being updated only if somebody opens and saves the project during the Stage B. If there is no action after the project is submitted, the field remains empty. Is this an expected behavior of SD or did I miss something?

Thank you for the help. |

  • Just with the purpose to update this topic: as the project needs to be checked out, the field will not be updated until this happens. So, I did have to wait the next time the project is opened and published to get the field updated. |
