Project 2010 - failed to recreate PWA RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings!

I'm migrating PWA 2007 to 2010. I had a clean 2010 PWA working, after I have attached 2007 PWA databases and upgrade thoose to PWA 2010 it stopped working soo I want to do UNDO. I have followed this steps:

I have followed URL for undoing the hole thing: http://pwmather.wordpress.com/2012/04/10/projectserver-2010-environment-rollover-steps-powershell-ps2010-msproject-sp2010/.

    I have ran this commands:

    Remove-SPProjectWebInstance -Url http://sharepoint/pwa

    Dismount-SPContentDatabase "PWA_Content"

    Mount-SPContentDatabase “PWA_Content” -DatabaseServer “SQLSRV” –WebApplicationhttp://sharepoint
    New-SPProjectWebInstance -Url “http://sharepoint/pwa” -AdminAccount “COMPANY\Admin" -PrimaryDbserver “SQLSRV” -PublishedDbname “ProjectServer_Published” -ArchiveDbname “ProjectServer_Archive” -DraftDbname “ProjectServer_Draft” -ReportingDbserver “SQLSRV” -ReportingDbname “ProjectServer_Reporting”

    Get-SPProjectWebInstance –URL http://sharepoint/pwa | Select ProvisioningStatus

And got a FAILED error. "Failed - see the Application event Log"

APPLICATION EVENT LOG HAD THIS MESSAGES:

Reusing http://sharepoint/pwa site for provisioning /pwa

Failed to create the Report Center web (Exception: PSI Entry Point:
    Project User: COMPANY\Admin
    Correlation Id: c7a70b64-80e5-4eec-ac4b-0837a75d2152
    PWA Site URL: http://sharepoint/pwa
SSP Name: Project Server Service Application
    PSError: NoError (0))

ProjectSite post provision setup completed with errors

Provisioning '/pwa': Post provisioning setup failed. Exception 'Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.ProvisionException: Post provisioning setup failed.
       at Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.PsiServiceApplication.CreateSite(ProjectProvisionSettings provset)'.

Failed to provision site /pwa with error: Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.ProvisionException: Post provisioning setup failed.
       at Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.PsiServiceApplication.CreateSite(ProjectProvisionSettings provset)

Retrying the thing on Central Admin made the same error again.

  • Hi,

Did you check if you could reach your PWA site? I had a similar problem as you way back and even with the error it still worked like a charm.

    With kind regards,

  • Another strange thing is if I run:

    stsadm -o databaserepair -url http://sharepoint/pwa -databasename PWA_Content

    It gives me 0 orphansites.

  • Hi there,

Regardin the Test-SPContentDatabase command, this has highlighted customisations / solutions / features / web parts that exist in the content database that do not existing in the 2010 farm. These customisations should be deployed to the 2010 farm if possible otherwise the upgrade will fail. Do you have details for all of the customisations to the 2007 farm?

    Thanks

    Paul

  • I have managed to make PWA working, but it was important which step I took.

    1. I have deleted all SQL bases which were moved from 2007 to 2010.

    2. Then I have took restore SQL bases from 2007 again and attach/restore them on 2010.

    3. Then I have deleted PWA site, dismount content databses with this two commands:

    Remove-SPProjectWebInstance -Url Http://sharepoint/PWA
    Dismount-SPContentDatabase "PWA_Content"

    4. Ok, this step was very important. When I was mounting PWA content first, and then creating webinstance I could not get it to work, soo I did this first:

    New-SPProjectWebInstance -Url “http://sharepoint/pwa” -AdminAccount “COMPANY\Administrator" -PrimaryDbserver “SQLSRV” -PublishedDbname “ProjectServer_Published” -ArchiveDbname “ProjectServer_Archive” -DraftDbname “ProjectServer_Draft” -ReportingDbserver “SQLSRV” -ReportingDbname “ProjectServer_Reporting”
    Get-SPProjectWebInstance –URL http://sharepoint/pwa | Select ProvisioningStatus

    Then I have mounted SPContent:

    Mount-SPContentDatabase "PWA_Content" -DatabaseServer "SQLSRV" -WebApplication http://sharepoint

I believe I still have some errors with orphan sites, missing features, missing setup files, but if I understand right this will only be a problem when I will wish to put any new cumulative updates?
Can I easily delete thoose missing setup files, orphan files? Is there any good quick-step tutorial for doing that?

    With best regards,

  • Hi there,

Looking at your steps, in step 4  you would need to mount the content first, then create the PWA instance.

    THanks

  • If you do not want the PWA site data to be migrated from 2007 to 2010 then your approoach will work fine, this is the same as the core upgrade found here:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee662499.aspx

This will just migrate the Project server data (project, resources, config etc. - no project sites, PWA data)

If you want the PWA site data and project sites then you will need to mount the content db first then provision the PWA site using the mounted content database while ensuring that the PWA path name is the same.

    Thanks

  • Soo this means my approach only partly migrated stuff from 2007 to 2010? Damn :)

Soo I guess if I wish to migrate everything I will need to solve thoose orphansites, missing setupfiles, etc first?

Is there any good tutorial how to know which webparts are thoose and if I can just delete them easily?
