Is Vista governed to run slow? RRS feed

  • Question

I have a home-built system which is intended to be fast, having both very high bandwidth and throughput.  It is built on an Asus workstation MB, having an overclocking function which increases as the system load increases.  Every component in this system meets or exceeds the Premium specifications.  Aero, at best, is a snack.

I get the feeling that no matter what you build, a Microsoft OS will find a way to slow it to a crawl.  Basically, as in an engine, I have the sense that Windows Vista is "governing" my system; that in effect, there is a speed limit placed upon it.

As I just finished physically building the system and implementing two RAID arrays ("1" for the System & "0" for projects), I have no productivity software installed yet (such as Microsoft Office or Avid).  However, in playing the bundled games and in using the system generally, I find that everything functions slower than I think it should.

    Can anyone address this?

What can I do to speed Vista overall?
